Audio, as usual, is dodgy, but those who soldier through may find they profit from it.

If you want more of this without the audio trouble, come join us! Our next training will be July 3.

Some news from Greg from the BBG mailing list: “Upon some suggestions from the group we have decided to give ourselves a bit of a catchier name. Rather than BBG [Black Belt Group] you are all now proud members of The BUDOKAS. A group of like minded karateka that want to train hard and improve our martial skills while at the same time have fun and make friends. Being a Budoka means you have a responsibility to take care of yourself and others.”

If you are confused, this refers to the mailing list and biweekly Sunday practices we have been holding. If you are on the email list and come to practice, you’re in. If you would like to be added, please email greg@nackc.us or chip@nakf.net and let us know. We are welcoming all rank levels above white belt so don’t be shy.

Just wait for the merch!

Speaking of which, our next practice will be Sunday, April 3 at 9am at Doshi Kai in Acton, MA. Here is a link to the Facebook event page. A Zoom link will be distributed on the email list, but please attend in-person if you can.

Finally, we also have new NAKF patches (and the usual NACKC patches as well). If you want them, we are asking for $7 per patch plus $3/order s/h. We take Venmo: @NACKC or Paypal: treasurer@nackc.us. Send the money to one of those, then email me (chip@nakf.net) your mailing details and I’ll get them right out.

Thank you!

We had a good dojo full of people at this past Sunday’s training, plus a few on Zoom. Thanks to everyone who made it out for what became a full three hours and one of the best attended sessions we’ve had to date! We had some issues and didn’t get any good photos or video this time out, so sorry to disappoint. (The recorded Zoom video is too low quality to bother with.)

The next session will be Sunday, March 20 at 9:00am at, as always, Doshi Kai in Acton, MA. Here is a link to the event page on Facebook.

We recommend emailing greg@nackc.us to get on the “Black Belt Group” (BBG) email list and also to let him know you may come or have any questions. You can also leave a comment here with questions.

As a reminder: All brown and black belts are welcome to come, regardless of organizational affiliation. We are training karate, not “working on promotion requirements.” Feel free to spread the invitation to your own lists. We would always like to see more people. Lower rank students are welcome as long as they are skilled enough to follow along and do not require the most basic instruction.

See more at the Facebook link. We hope to see you there, preferably in person, but on Zoom if you can’t make it.

All brown and black belts are welcome to come, regardless of organizational affiliation. We are training karate, not “working on promotion requirements.” Lower rank students are also welcome as long as they can keep up without having to be taken aside and taught the basic basics. Facebook event link here.

A $5 donation is requested. If you are on the fence about whether this is for you or not, just come train.

RSVP is not necessary to just show up, but if you think you might be able to make it, please email Greg at greg@nackc.us so we can have some idea of how many people to expect and to be sure you are on the BBG (“Black Belt Group”) email list. Please also hit the “Going” button on Facebook. We also expect to be sending a Zoom link to the email list of attendees for those who live too far to attend, but in-person training is always much preferred.

Sensei Jordan Berry, 7th dan and one of Sensei Tabata’s most advanced and respected students is confirmed to return to run the class. This is a training opportunity not to be missed.

Here is the raw video of today’s open class for Brown and Black Belts. We put a camera in the corner and let it run until the card filled up or the battery ran out – about 1 hour 12 minutes out of about a 2 1/2 hour class. Audio is not great, but you can hear if you’d like to listen. There’s lots of explanation of Sensei Jordan’s theories on breathing, movement, and some stories thrown in in this semi-formal class.

We had a small group of three folks in the dojo and one on Zoom. Class taught by Sensei Jordan Berry, 7th Dan, NAKF. Sensei Jordan is co-Chief Instructor of the North American Karate Federation.

The class is held at Doshi Kai in Acton, MA. If you would like to join in (all are welcome), email Greg@nackc.us for details and to get on the mailing list.

The next advanced training will be Sunday, January 16th from 9:00am to around 11 at Doshi Kai in Acton, MA. All brown and black belts are welcome to come, regardless of organizational affiliation. Feel free to spread the invitation to your own lists. We would always like to see more people. Since many traditional martial artists are a bit parochial, we run this under the heading of Black Belt Group (BBG), rather than NAKF, in order to emphasize our desire for everyone to come along. We do facilitate the training, but we are training karate, not “working on promotion requirements.”

A $5 donation is requested. If you are on the fence about whether this is for you or not, just come train.

RSVP is not necessary to just show up, but if you think you might be able to make it, please email Greg at greg@nackc.us so we can have some idea of how many people to expect and be sure you are on the [BBG] email notification list.

We also expect to be sending a Zoom link to the email list of attendees for those who live too far to attend.
