Video: Budokas Highlights from July 9

This is a short excerpt from the Budokas practice on July 9. Chip on defense only, and bits of John, Marcelo, and Greg’s turns on offense. Class started with basics then on to about 35 minutes of this. There were six attackers total. Same defender. The drill is that attacker goes at a light, medium pace, and the defender simply moves and blocks. Defender does not counter. This is a movement and vision exercise.

This is a short excerpt from the Budokas practice on June 25. In the first clip, Sensei Jordan steps in with Jorge (Purple Belt) as his uke. The drill is that attacker goes at a light, medium speed pace, and the defender simply finds ways to foil attacks and set up counters by movement and blocking. Defender does not counter. This is a movement and vision exercise. In the second segment, Chip provides the attacks while Greg defends.

Kendo now being offered at Doshi Kai, Acton!

Sensei Barry Poitras would like to announce that Doshi Kai in Acton will be adding a Kendo class back to its Saturday lineup of offerings.

The Saturday schedule will be:

Karate 10-12

Iaido 12-1:30

Kendo 1:30- 3

Note that Iaido and Kendo are a separate membership from Karate. Interested parties should contact Barry directly at barry.poitras@gmail.com for details.

Back to the video tape! This was a promotion held back in 1984, but not much more is known about the specific school in question outside the title. If you have any recollections regarding this event, please let us know in the comments. What club was this? The audio has TV playing in the background for some reason, so sorry about that – possibly an issue with the original VHS tape.

The Masters who did demonstrations that day were (in order of appearance): Hiroyasu Kobayashi, Bow-sim Mark, Tadashi Yamashita, Kazumi Tabata, Fumio Demura, James Lew, Kiyoshi Yamasaki, and Takayuki Kubota.
